چکیده

In digital tomosynthesis imaging, multiple projections of an object are obtained along a small range of di↵erent incident angles in order to reconstruct a pseudo-3D representation of the object. In this paper we discuss a mathematical model for polyenergetic digital breast to-mosynthesis image reconstruction that explicitly takes into account various materials composing the object and the polyenergetic nature of the x-ray beam. Our model allows for computing weight fractions of the individual materials that make up the object, which can then be used to reconstruct pseudo-3D images. The reconstruction process requires solving a large-scale inverse problem, which is done with a gradient descent iteration. Regularization is enforced by truncating the iteration. The mathematical model is described in detail, as is an ecient approach to compute the gradient of the objective function. The e↵ectiveness of our approach is illustrated with real data taken of an object with known materials that simulates an actual breast. 1. Introduction. Image reconstruction algorithms used, for example, in computed tomography (CT), require solving large-scale inverse problems of the form

Ultra-Fast Image Reconstruction of Tomosynthesis Mammography Using GPU

Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) is a technology that creates three dimensional (3D) images of breast tissue. Tomosynthesis mammography detects lesions that are not detectable with other imaging systems. If image reconstruction time is in the order of seconds, we can use Tomosynthesis systems to perform Tomosynthesis-guided Interventional procedures. This research has been designed to study u...

Practical iterative image reconstruction in digital breast tomosynthesis by non-convex TpV optimization

Digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) is a rapidly developing imaging modality that gives some tomographic information for breast cancer screening. The effectiveness of standard mammography can be limited by the presence of overlapping structures in the breast. A DBT scan, consisting of a limited number of views covering a limited arc projecting the breast onto a fixed flat-panel detector, involve...

An Object-Oriented Simulator for 3D Digital Breast Tomosynthesis Imaging System

Digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) is an innovative imaging modality that provides 3D reconstructed images of breast to detect the breast cancer. Projections obtained with an X-ray source moving in a limited angle interval are used to reconstruct 3D image of breast. Several reconstruction algorithms are available for DBT imaging. Filtered back projection algorithm has traditionally been used to...

Digital Breast Tomosynthesis Reconstruction with Detector Blur and Correlated Noise

This paper describes a new reconstruction method for digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT). The new method incorporates detector blur into the forward model. The detector blur introduces correlation in the measurement noise. We formulate it as a regularized quadratic optimization problem with data-fit term that accounts for the non-diagonal noise covariance matrix. By making a few assumptions base...

Generalized Filtered Back-projection for Digital Breast Tomosynthesis Reconstruction

Filtered back-projection (FBP) has been commonly used as an efficient and robust reconstruction technique in tomographic X-ray imaging during the last decades. For limited angle tomography acquisitions such as digital breast tomosynthesis, however, standard FBP reconstruction algorithms provide poor results and give rise to image artifacts due to the limited angular range and the coarse angular...

Numerical Algorithms for Polyenergetic Digital Breast Tomosynthesis Reconstruction

Digital tomosynthesis imaging is becoming increasingly significant in a variety of medical imaging applications. Tomosynthesis imaging involves the acquisition of a series of projection images over a limited angular range, which, after reconstruction, results in a pseudo-3D representation of the imaged object. The partial separation of features in the third dimension improves the visibility of ...
